Step 1 — Stand outside the door

"Outside" means the side the door opens away from — the "secure" side.

·For a front door, that's the yard.
·For a bedroom or bathroom, that's the hallway.
·For a closet, that's the room itself.

Face the door. The hinges will be visible on one side.
